About CSS
At Carl Schurz School (CSS), we see each day as an opportunity for children to explore, create, play, and grow. Early childhood is a time full of wonder, curiosity, and discovery, and our goal is to nurture the whole child in a warm, caring environment where every child feels safe, supported, and excited to learn.
Our program is thoughtfully designed for children ages 12 weeks to 5 years, blending Creative Curriculum, nature-based learning, and play-based experiences to support growth in every area—cognitive, social, emotional, physical, and creative. We know that children are naturally curious and capable, and we follow their interests to guide learning. Whether they’re digging in the garden, building with blocks, creating art, or watching the clouds drift by, our teachers are there to encourage exploration, problem-solving, and joyful discovery.
At CSS, we also focus on helping children develop important life skills. Learning to put on a jacket, tidy up after snack, use words to solve conflicts, express feelings, and care for others is just as valuable as learning letters and numbers. We gently support children in growing confidence, independence, and resilience—skills that set them up not just for school, but for life.
Every child brings something unique to our school, and we feel privileged to be part of their early learning journey. Our hope is that children leave CSS with a love of learning, a sense of curiosity, and the confidence to explore the world around them.

Children participate in a structured daily rhythm that includes classroom morning meetings, library, physical education, and indoor and outdoor exploration. We are proud to offer:
- A large outdoor deck
- An indoor gym for active play
- A multipurpose room for community lunch and morning/afternoon care
- The availability of several parks and a duck pond
- An art and music space
- An in-school library with weekly visits for story time and book borrowing
- A therapy room for children who need additional support such as Occupational and Speech Therapy
- Parent involvement for PTA community events and fundraising activities
We believe a strong partnership with families is essential. We communicate regularly about your child’s progress and are always here to support you. Together, we work to create a safe, joyful, and engaging environment where children can thrive.
